Tuesday evening, in a new special father/son dinner event, politician and social justice advocate Mark K. Shriver, spoke with the seventh graders and their fathers about his book, A Good Man: Rediscovering My Father, Sargent Shriver. The book explores his father's example, what made him a good man, his guiding principles of faith, hope, and love, and the lessons Mark learned from him.
The boys were captivated by Mr. Shriver's talk and subsequent discussion and they enjoyed the opportunity to spend a unique evening together with their dads at a pivotal time in the father/son relationship.
At Saint David's, our mission's ultimate aspiration is for our boys to "be good men." We address this in so many ways at school, through Chapel, community service, and in the ways in which we treat each other.
The impact that a father has on his son is an important element in this mix as well, and last night we were able to join as a community of Saint David's fathers and sons and explore a little of this special relationship.
Mr. Shriver, in addition to authoring his best selling book, works as Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Save the Children. He was a delight.
